This quarter, third graders will work on skills which will enable them to use a library/media center effectively. Topics covered during this quarter include: the parts of a book; the arrangement
of fiction and nonfiction books; the setup and use of the new automated card catalog; and an introduction to the Dewey Decimal System. The acquisition of theses skills will help students to complete projects
later this year as well as to work more effectively as they advance to the upper grades and more challenging assignments.
Students are expected to come to class with a pencil and a folder; however, much of the work will be hands-on to give the students an actual chance to use the Media Center and its materials. Further
information on the overall informational media curriculum and long-term assignments can be found on my webpage.
